Exponential Growth

Exponential Growth

Students in Mrs. O’Brien’s Algebra 1 class learned about exponential growth and decay through a fun activity with a bouncy ball. Students were given a bouncy ball and asked to record the data for how high a ball bounces after it is dropped from several different heights and then graph their results. Students were then asked to record the decay of the same ball after 6 bounces and graph their results. Students discovered that both of their results of the experiment represented exponential functions. Students will build on this experience of exponential growth and decay through more functions and sequences.
