Message from the Principal
March 31, 2020

Dear Parents,

We hope this finds your family healthy and doing well as we continue to walk this unprecedented journey together, with patience and compassion.  Our families are doing an amazing job with Distance Learning.  Your collaborative work with our teachers is to be commended. It has been great seeing all the exciting activities and creativity taking place each and every day.

As a school community, we want to thank all our family members that serve as doctors, nurses, health aides, first responders and service workers. All of you are our unsung heroes that give so selflessly to saving lives, keeping us safe and our world running in a time of national crisis.  You are a true example of Faith, Hope and Love.  You give us faith to believe in God’s steadfast love and care for us, especially in these difficult and unpredictable times.  Hope for blessings in the future with better days ahead. Your giving hearts are a true example of God’s unconditional love for us.  Thank you does not seem enough, but we are forever grateful.  May God bless each of you with His peace and grace.

None of this is easy. During this time of uncertainty, especially with our many responsibilities, things can become overwhelming. Parents are working hard to care for and to keep their families healthy and safe.  At the same time, they are trying their best to work with teachers and to navigate the world of education. Life has taken such a quick and unexpected turn.  It seems like stress and anxiety have become a normal part of life.  More than ever, we need to support and embrace each other.

During these challenging times, try to notice the triggers that lead to difficult situations.  Remember that no one has to be perfect.  We are in this together, from start to finish.  In anxious moments, surround yourself with support, remember to step away and take a deep breath.  Keep your family active and enjoy time outside and with each other.  Nature brings an abundance of peace.

Setting routines and schedules is also a big help. Focus on the positive and  appreciate the little things.  Look for ways to make a positive difference for others.  Capture moments and seek opportunities. Find peaceful moments for prayer and reflection. Those quiet moments allow us to refocus, get centered and to see the many blessings in our lives.  In the big picture, what are the things that matter the most?  It is our families and our well-being. Everything else will fall into place.

In accord with Governor Michael DeWine's directive regarding Ohio’s efforts to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus, Notre Dame Elementary School will continue to suspend all on-campus instruction and all school-sponsored activities, through May 1st.

Lessons will continue through next Tuesday, April 7th and then Easter vacation will begin on Wednesday, April 8th.  Distance Learning classes will be back in session on Monday, April 20th.

Throughout Distance Learning, teachers will continue to work hard to ensure that our students make academic progress.  Several teachers have already connected with their students using Zoom, a video conferencing platform.  It is an awesome way to have grade level collaboration and teacher directed lessons. Zoom will become a regular part of the NDES experience throughout all grade levels.  Teachers will let parents know when their classes will be connecting.

Throughout this experience, the one big common factor is We Miss You!  We miss our families and we miss our children!  Although we are apart, please know you are always with us in our prayers and in our hearts.  We are currently working on a special project, “We Continue to Change the World with Love”.  If you would like to contribute pictures of ways your children/family continue to “Change the World with Love” and make a positive difference while at home, please share them with your homeroom teacher or our STEM teacher, Ms. Leora Sullivan at [email protected] by next Tuesday, April 7th. The project will be shared after we return from Easter break.

Thank you for all you are doing to support your children and NDES. May God continue to bless our school community with good health and peace. You are each a gift and so loved.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help as we continue this journey together.

Blessings & Care,

Barbara Doering
