Art Appreciation
The preschool hosts an art appreciation program. The purpose of this program is to provide the children with art experiences that are outside of our weekly art activities, taught by an art specialist. In past years, the children have made pottery, painted on canvas and replicated famous artwork.
DinaSchool Program
The Dinaschool program is provided to Notre Dame Preschool through Catholic Charities. In this program, Dina, a beloved dinosaur puppet, talks to the children about social and emotional issues such as being a good friend, being a good classroom citizen, and handling disagreements in a loving manner. Dina the dinosaur brings stories and music to life for 30 minutes each week.
The NDES librarians travel to our preschool once a week for a 30 minute library program. The children are treated to stories related to what they are learning in class that week. Our wonderful librarians also conduct creative activities such as art and music to enhance their weekly visits.
PreK-Poetry Recital
As part of the Pre-K Language Arts program, children choose or write a poem of interest to them. The children practice reciting and reading the poem during the month of February. In March, the Pre-K class holds a Poetry Recital for family and friends. It is an event not to be missed!
Pumpkin Patch
The preschool pumpkin patch provides a hands-on learning experience for our science curriculum right outside our door. Children in our 3-year old program plant pumpkin seeds in the spring. With the help of several families, our pumpkin patch is cared for all summer long. In the fall, our Pre-K children harvest the pumpkins and spend several days compiling a “pumpkin science” report. Each Pre-K child takes their beloved pumpkin home at the end of this unit.
New this year to Notre Dame Preschool is Kindermusik. Students will develop a love for music through songs, movement, instruments, and stories. They will engage in weekly fun activities centered around familiar themes that will get them moving and boost their language and literacy skills.
Very Young Authors Program
The Young Author program has been a part of NDES for many years. The preschool has adopted a “Very Young Authors” program. Under the direction of our Enrichment teacher, Lindsay Montague, all preschool children dictate and illustrate their very own story. The children proudly display their books at the NDES Learning Fair.
